David Gerkens, A.I.C.P, P. P., is Vice President of CGP&H and brings more than ten years experience in land use planning activities for the states of New Jersey and Maine. David has had hands-on experience in hundreds of site plan reviews, and he has coordinated downtown revitalization activities, designed passive recreational facilities, secured more than $20 million in funding, and written and implemented numerous professional planning documents.

As one of the pre-eminent grantwriters in the state, Dave secures funds for almost every type of municipal project imaginable. As testimony to his expertise, in addition to securing millions of dollars for streets, sidewalks, sewer and water infrastructure and more, Dave has also secured millions of dollars in grant funds for projects as diverse as a ladder truck for a fire department, school safety programs, the revitalization of an animal shelter, the redevelopment of a municipal park, and the creation of new municipal programs, to name a few. He is also highly experienced in the areas of site plan review, preparing Master Plan reexaminations and updates, Fair Share Plans, Open Space and Recreation Plans, ordinance revisions and Unified Development Ordinance preparation, and redevelopment planning. Dave currently serves as Redevelopment Planner, Municipal Planner and Grants Consultant for CGP&H clients. He frequently represents the firm at committee-level meetings and routinely completes Redevelopment Plans for our clients and assists municipalities in developing project implementation strategies using a combination of redevelopment planning tools and grant subsidies.

Dave earned his Bachelors Degree in Environmental Science in 1991. As a New Jersey-licensed (# LI05614) and nationally-certified professional planner, he has also provided expert testimony on planning and zoning cases throughout the state. He has served the Planning Boards of Palmyra Borough, Lakewood Township, Bordentown Township, West Deptford Township, Deptford Township, Elk Township and Waterford Township in various professional capacities.

Dave is a distinguished member of the American Planning Association and its New Jersey Chapter. He has lead seminars and workshops at the national, state and local level on a variety of conservation-related issues.

In his free time, Dave enjoys spending time with his wife Barbara and their three cats.
